Frequently Asked Questions About Immigration in Spain

Do I need a visa to live in Spain?

If you are a non-EU citizen and want to live in Spain for more than 90 days, you will usually need a visa or residence authorisation.

For many non-EU retirees, the Non-Lucrative Visa is one of the most common options, provided they meet the financial and health insurance requirements.

In many cases, yes. The Digital Nomad Visa may allow certain non-EU citizens to live in Spain while working remotely for foreign employers or clients.

Many Spanish visa and residence routes allow family members to apply together or join the main applicant later.

Buying property in Spain does not automatically give you residence. The former Golden Visa route for new real estate investors has been abolished.

Timing depends on the type of application, the country where you apply, the authority involved and whether your documents are complete.

Some procedures must be started from the Spanish consulate in your country of residence, while others may be available from Spain.

Depending on the reason for rejection, it may be possible to appeal, correct the issue or submit a new application.

In many cases, legal residence in Spain can lead to Spanish nationality, but the required period depends on your nationality and personal circumstances.
